Want to play Boggle online? Try Popple, free in your browser

If you grew up shaking the plastic dome and racing a sand timer, you already know how to play Popple. Letters sit in a grid. You trace words through touching tiles, diagonals included, and longer words are worth more. The difference is that Popple was built for the browser from day one: no download, no app store, nothing to install on the work laptop you probably shouldn't be playing on.

Words are checked against a 172,727-word dictionary the moment you trace them, scores update in real time, and a full round takes 90 seconds. You can play solo in practice mode, race the whole world on the daily challenge, or open a private room and battle up to ten friends at once.

Multiplayer is where Popple stops being a Boggle clone. Finding words quickly builds combos, combos earn attacks, and attacks briefly fog, spin, freeze, or mirror your opponents' grid. Players in last place earn attacks faster, so nobody is ever fully out of a match. The details are in the attacks guide.

How a match works

  • Pick a grid: 4×4 (words of 3+ letters), 5×5 (4+), or 6×6 (5+).
  • Trace words by dragging through adjacent tiles before the 60–120 second timer runs out.
  • Longer and rarer words score more; the exact math is in the scoring guide.
  • In multiplayer, watch the live scoreboard and time your attacks for maximum chaos.

Frequently asked questions

Is Popple actually free?

Yes. Every mode — practice, daily challenge, and multiplayer — is free to play in the browser. There is no download and no paywall on gameplay; optional cosmetics are bought with gems earned by playing.

Can I play with friends who are on different devices?

Yes. Popple runs in the browser, so an iPhone, an Android phone, and a laptop can all join the same room. Share the room code and friends join instantly, even without an account.

How is Popple different from classic Boggle?

The letter-tracing core is the same, but Popple adds real-time scoring, three grid sizes, a shared daily puzzle, attacks that scramble your opponents' view in multiplayer, and a progression system with levels and achievements.
